Concerts for brass enthusiasts

by Jo

There are some great brass concerts coming up in London over the next few weeks if you love the sound of symphonic brass. If you haven’t got a date for Valentines Day or want to take your partner to hear some beautiful music than go to the Royal College of Music on Thursday. You can hear London Symphony Orchestra members including the legendary Maurice Murphy as well as RCM brass students playing music by Handel, Richard Rodney Bennett and Bernstein.

Another chance to hear the LSO brass is on the 18th March and I am really hoping my diary stays free for this one.

After our Purcell Room recital in January we all spent the evening with friends and family at the Archduke and than spent the next week recovering. Not with hangovers just from the exhaustion of rehearsing and practicing manically over Christmas. At music college students take a final exam which is a 50min long recital and is normally the basis for about 50% of your degree. Friends and family come to hear you play and the pressure can feel enormous. The relief after it is over is huge, and this recital was like that for me. I had spent so much time thinking about it and planning for it that afterwards I felt like I could sleep for a week.
Since than the quartet has been working for Live Music Now in the South of England including a lovely trip through snow to visit two schools in Kent. We always love this work as our hosts always make us feel very valued and our audiences are brilliant. Tonight we are working at the Croxley Project in Westminster, London which we are looking forward to. If you are heading out tonight to see Hardenberger at St Lukes, I am jealous and wish I could do both.

I have used my Social Security number while on the Internet so now I am afraid to make any credit card purchases on-line because I think it will make my credit card account vulnerable. Right now I’m thinking about applying for a credit card online but I’m not sure that it is safe. Do you now what kind of security system they use at
