Cafe Bohemia

Thanks very much to the friends who came along to our concert in Café Bohemia in Hackney and to everyone who walked in off the street and stayed to hear us play. The café was really friendly and we had a great time playing some of our favourite pieces as well as some new repertoire.
We were very pleased that the composer Owen Bourne presented us with a short suite entitled “Four Trumpet Pieces”. It’s got lots of different textures and moods and we will use it on tour in our Live Music Now concerts. Some classical performers are apprehensive about performing away from traditional concert venues, but I love it. When someone comes up afterwards and says “I’ve never been to a classical concert before, but I really enjoyed that”, I feel I have won someone over to classical music. I think if you take good quality classical music to people, most people will enjoy something about it. Also it’s great to see real instruments, much more interesting that listening to a CD.
At the moment we are rehearsing for our tour to Wales. Yesterday Nicole presented us with some ominously notey music before running out the door saying she had somewhere to get too. Thanks Nicole. We also have an arrangement of a really famous piece of music. I want to surprise our audiences so I won’t say what it is, but it is probably one of the most dramatic pieces I know. Please log your guesses in the comments section below and I will send a Bella Tromba CD to the winner!

Keep on going and the chances are you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I have never heard of anyone stumbling on something sitting down.
